Description:   Two vulnerabilities were reported in Cisco Secure Desktop. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.

A remote user can create specially crafted HTML that, when loaded by the target user, will invoke the CSDWebInstaller.ocx ActiveX control and execute arbitrary code on the target system because the system fails to verify the digital signature of the executable file [CVE-2011-0926]. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.

A remote user can also rename Cisco-signed executable file to 'inst.exe', host it remotely, and exploit flaws in the file to execute arbitrary code on the target user's system [CVE-2011-0925].

The CLSID of the vulnerable control is: 705EC6D4-B138-4079-A307-EF13E4889A82

The vendor was notified on September 14, 2010 and August 25, 2010, respectively.

An anonymous researcher reported these vulnerabilities via TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative.

Impact:   A remote user can create HTML that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
Solution:   No solution was available at the time of this entry.

The vendor plans to issue a fix by March 31, 2011.

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on
vulnerable installations of Cisco Secure Desktop. User interaction is
required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a
malicious page or open a malicious file.

The specific flaw exists within CSDWebInstaller.ocx ActiveX control. The
vulnerable Cisco-signed ActiveX control verifies the signing authority
names in the certificate chain but fails to properly verify the digital
signature of an executable file that is downloaded and executed by the
Cisco Secure Desktop installation process. A remote attacker can exploit
this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code under the context of the

The killbit can be set on this control to disable scripting within Internet Explorer by modifying the data value of the Compatibilty Flags DWORD within the following location in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\705EC6D4-B138-4079-A307-EF13E4889A82
