Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in Microsoft Exchange. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system. A remote user can cause denial of service conditions. A remote user can conduct script injection attacks.

A remote user can send e-mail containing specially crafted, base64-encoded content that, when processed by the target mail server, will execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A remote user can send a specially crafted iCal file to a user account to cause the target mail service to crash.

A remote user can send a specially crafted IMAP command to cause the target mail service to stop responding.

A remote user can send an attachment with a specially crafted UTF character set label to conduct script injection attacks via Outlook Web Access.

Microsoft credits Martijn Brinkers of Izecom with reporting the script injection vulnerability, Alexander Sotirov of Determina Security Research wtih reporting the iCal vulnerability, and Joxean Koret and iDefense with reporting the IMAP vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can create a file that, when processed by the target system, will execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A remote user can cause denial of service conditions.

A remote user can conduct script injection attacks to obtain information from the target user or take actions on the system acting as the target user.

Solution:   The vendor has issued the following fixes:

Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 with the Exchange 2000 Post-Service Pack 3 Update Rollup of August 2004:
