Description:   A vulnerability was reported in IBM Lotus Domino. A remote user can execute arbitrary code on the target system.

A remote user can send specially crafted username value to trigger a buffer overflow in the CRAM-MD5 authentication mechanism and cause the target IMAP service to crash or execute arbitrary code.

A username longer than 256 bytes can trigger the overflow.

Systems with the IMAP server task enabled are affected.

The vendor was notified on August 31, 2006.

The vendor credits ZDI with reporting this vulnerability.

The original advisory is available at:

Impact:   A remote user can cause the IMAP server task to crash or execute arbitrary code.

[Editor's note: The vendor indicates that the impact is denial of service. However, the original advisory indicates that arbitrary code execution is possible.]

Solution:   The vendor has issued fixed versions (6.5.6 and 7.0.2 Fix Pack 1).
