Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 8.5.2, 8.5.2.1, 9.0, 9.0.0.1, 9.0.1
Description:   Multiple vulnerabilities were reported in IBM Sametime Meetings Server. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting and cross-site request forgery attacks. A remote user can modify data on the target system. A remote authenticated user can upload files to the target system. A remote user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system. A local user can obtain authentication credentials.

A remote authenticated user can upload an arbitrary file to a Sametime meeting room that may subsequently be downloaded and executed by other users in the meeting room [CVE-2016-0354].

A remote user can create a specially crafted HTML page or URL that, when loaded by the target authenticated user, will take actions on the target interface acting as the target user. This can be exploited by a remote authenticated user in a Sametime meeting room to cause the screen sharing function to stop [CVE-2016-0355, CVE-2016-0356]. This can also be exploited by a remote user to cause the target user to logout of Sametime [CVE-2016-2965].

A remote authenticated Sametime meeting room manager can remove the primary manager's privileges [CVE-2016-2959].

A remote authenticated user invited to a Sametime meeting room can lower arbitrary hands (i.e., votes) in an e-meeting [CVE-2016-2958, CVE-2016-2977].

The software does not properly filter HTML code from user-supplied input before displaying the input [CVE-2016-2973, CVE-2016-2979]. A remote user can cause arbitrary scripting code to be executed by the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the IBM Sametime software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

A local user can view the authentication credentials of the target user in the local cache of the target user's browser [CVE-2016-2972].

The server may send replies to the wrong email addresses [CVE-2016-2969].

A remote user can view potentially sensitive information in stack trace error logs [CVE-2016-2971].

Impact:   A remote user can take actions on the target system acting as the target authenticated user.

A remote authenticated user can lower arbitrary hands (i.e., votes) in an e-meeting.

A remote authenticated user can upload files to potentially be downloaded and executed by other meeting users.

A local user can obtain passwords on the target user's system.

A remote user can obtain potentially sensitive information on the target system.

A remote user can access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site running the IBM Sametime software, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.

Solution:   IBM has issued a fix (9.0.1 FP1).

Vendor URL:  www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg22006439 (Links to External Site)
Cause:   Access control error, Input validation error
Underlying OS:  Linux (Any), Windows (Any)

Message History:   None.
