SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1039006
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1039006
CVE Reference:   CVE-2017-6770   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Jul 27 2017
Impact:   Modification of system information, Modification of user information
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 5500-X Series
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Cisco ASA 5500-X Series firewalls. A remote user can modify the OSPF LSA database to take full control of the target Autonomous System.

A remote user can send a specially crafted Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) Link State Advertisement (LSA) type 1 packet from a valid or spoofed address to the target system's OSPF multicast address or to an OSPF-enabled interface on the target system to flush the routing table on the target system and inject arbitrary routes. This can be exploited to establish false routes and route traffic to a black hole or to an arbitrary destination.

The remote user must know or guess certain parameters of the target system to exploit this vulnerability, such as IP addresse, LSA DB sequence numbers, and the router ID of the OSPF Designated Router.

OSPFv3 and FSPF are not affected by this vulnerability.

The vendor has assigned bug ID CSCve47393 to this vulnerability.

Dr. Gabi Nakibly from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems reported this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user can modify the routing table and take full control of the target Autonomous System.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.
