CVE Reference:   CVE-2017-8517, CVE-2017-8522, CVE-2017-8524   (Links to External Site)
Updated:  Jun 23 2017
Original Entry Date:  Jun 13 2017
Impact:   Execution of arbitrary code via network, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): 9, 10, 11
Description:   Several vulnerabilities were reported in Microsoft Internet Explorer. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.

A remote user can create specially crafted content that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger an object memory handling flaw in the JavaScript engine and execute arbitrary code on the target user's system [CVE-2017-8517, CVE-2017-8522, CVE-2017-8524].

This can also be exploited via an ActiveX control marked as 'safe for initialization' embedded in an application or Microsoft Office document that hosts the browser rendering engine.

Christian Holler (decoder, @mozdeco) - own-hero Team reported one of these vulnerabilities.

Impact:   A remote user can create content that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix.

[Editor's note: On June 21, 2017, the vendor reported a known issue with printing from Internet Explorer after installing the June Internet Explorer Cumulative Update 4021558, Monthly Rollups 4022719, 4022724, 4022726, or Security Updates 4022727, 4022714, 4022715, or 4022725. On June 23, 2017 the vendor released update 4032782 for Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 to correct this printing issue. The vendor recommends that only customers that have experienced the problem should apply the fix.]
