Description:   Multiple vulnerabilities were reported in Oracle Sun Solaris. A remote or local user can cause denial of service conditions on the target system. A local user can gain root privileges. A local user can partially access and modify data on the target system.

A remote user can send specially crafted data via TCP/IP [CVE-2011-0841] or SCTP [CVE-2011-0820] to cause complete denial of service conditions on the target system.

A local user can exploit a flaw in the Administration Utilities to take full control of the target system [CVE-2011-0800].

A local user can exploit a flaw in the cp command [CVE-2011-0801] or the uucp command [CVE-2011-0821] to partially access or modify data on the target system.

A local user can partially access data on the target system [CVE-2011-0790]. The wbem component is affected.

A local user may be able to read back-out patch files ('/pkg/[pkgname]/save/[patchid]/undo.Z') on Solaris 10 that contain password hashes and then conduct brute force attacks to recover passwords [CVE-2011-0412]. Michael Rutkowski of Duer Advanced Technology and Aerospace, Inc. (DATA) reported this vulnerability.

A local user can cause complete denial of service conditions on the target system. The Kernel [CVE-2011-0812, CVE-2011-0813], Kernel/SPARC [CVE-2011-0829], and LOFS [CVE-2011-0839] components are affected.

The following researchers reported these and other Oracle vulnerabilities:

Michael Rutkowski of Duer Advanced Technology and Aerospace, Inc. (DATA); Alexander Kornbrust of Red Database Security; Alexandr Polyakov of Digital Security; Ariel Elias-Bachrach of Navy Federal Credit Union; babi working with Beyond Security's SecuriTeam Secure Disclosure program; Bryan Horstmann-Allen; Dan Rosenberg of Virtual Security Research; David Vaartjes of ITsec Security Services; Dmitri Gribenko; Esteban Martinez Fayo of Application Security, Inc.; Jason Bowes of TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative; Joris Knape of Seneca Risk & Security BV; Juan Manuel Garcia of CYBSEC S.A.; Juan Pablo Perez Etchegoyen of Onapsis; Marc Schoenefeld of Red Hat; Mark Cranness of Clarus Limited; Mike Bailey of MAD Security; Nahuel Grisolia formerly of CYBSEC S.A.; Oleg P. of HSC Security Portal; Stijn Handgraaf of ITsec Security Services; Sumit Siddharth from 7safe; Tony Fogarty formerly of DNV; Vicente Aguilera Diaz of Internet Security Auditors, S.L.; Wietse Venema; and Will Dormann of CERT/CC.

Impact:   A remote or local user can cause denial of service conditions on the target system.

A local user can gain root privileges.

A local user can obtain hashed passwords.

A local user can partially access and modify data on the target system.

Solution:   The vendor has issued a fix, described in their April 2011 Critical Patch Update advisory.
