(HP Issues Fix for Mozilla on OpenVMS) Mozilla Firefox Shared Object Access Control Bug May Let Remote Users Execute Arbitrary Code
SecurityTracker Alert ID:  1014937
SecurityTracker URL:  http://securitytracker.com/id/1014937
CVE Reference:   GENERIC-MAP-NOMATCH   (Links to External Site)
Date:  Sep 20 2005
Impact:   Execution of arbitrary code via network, User access via network
Fix Available:  Yes  Vendor Confirmed:  Yes
Version(s): prior to 1.7-11
Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Mozilla Firefox in controlling access in shared base objects. A remote user can execute arbitrary code with privileges. Mozilla Suite is also affected.

The browser does not properly clone base objects. A remote user can create a script that, when loaded by the target user, can traverse the prototype chain to access a privileged object and then cause the object to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.

The vendor credits moz_bug_r_a4 and shutdown with reporting this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user may be able to cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.
Solution:   HP has issued a fix for the Secure Web Browser V1.7-11 for OpenVMS Alpha and I64. Web kits are available at:
