Description:   A vulnerability was reported in Java Runtime Environment. A remote user may be able to gain privileges on the target system.

A remote user can create a specially crafted Java application that, when loaded by the target user, will gain elevated privileges. The application may be able to read and write files or execute applications on the target user's system.

The flaw is related to the accessibility of certain internal classes.

No further details were provided.

The vendor credits Adam Gowdiak with reporting this vulnerability.

Impact:   A remote user may be able to read and write files or execute applications on the target user's system with the privileges of the target user.
Solution:   HP has issued a fix for HP-UX.

For Java 1.4 and earlier, update to revision 1.4.2.09.00 or subsequent.

For Java 5.0.00.00, update to Java 5.0.01.00 or subsequent.

A potential security vulnerability in Java(TM) Runtime Environment (JRE) on HP-UX may 
allow elevated privileges.

Java 5.0.0 release as well as Java 1.4.2.08 release and earlier.

A potential vulnerability in Java(TM) Runtime Environment (JRE) may allow an 
untrusted applet to elevate its privileges. For example, an applet may grant itself 
permissions to read and write local files or execute local applications that are 
accessible to the user running the untrusted applet.

There are no reported attacks based on this vulnerability.
