Version(s): prior to 2.6.15

Description:
Some buffer overflow vulnerabilities were reported in Libxml2. A remote user may be able to execute arbitrary code on the target system, depending on how the Libxml2 library is used.
sean reported that a remote user can create a specially crafted FTP URL that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger a buffer overflow. The flaw resides in the xmlNanoFTPScanURL() function in 'nanoftp.c'.
It is also reported that a remote user can create an FTP proxy URL that, when loaded, will also trigger a buffer overflow. The flaw resides in the xmlNanoFTPScanProxy() function in 'nanoftp.c'.
In addition, there are several buffer overflows in the resolution of domain names. A remote user with control of a DNS server or the ability to spoof a DNS server can trigger these buffer overflows to execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
|
Impact:
A remote user may be able to execute arbitrary code on the target system. The specific impact depends on how the Libxml2 library is used.
