Description:
An input validation vulnerability was reported in Macromedia's ColdFusion in the default error handlers. A remote user can conduct cross-site scripting attacks.
It is reported that a remote user can insert HTML scripting code via the HTTP Referer header field to conduct cross-site scripting attacks. The remote user's HTML, when loaded by the target user, will cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's browser. The code will originate from the site running the ColdFusion software and will run in the security context of that site. As a result, the code will be able to access the target user's cookies (including authentication cookies), if any, associated with the site, access data recently submitted by the target user via web form to the site, or take actions on the site acting as the target user.
Sites using the default ColdFusionMX Site-Wide Error Handler page or the default ColdFusionMX Missing Template Handler page may be affected.
Macromedia credits Vagabond Co, LTD of Japan and Robert Fly (robertfly@hotmail.com) with reporting this flaw.
