Description: A vulnerability was reported in Microsoft Word. A remote user can cause arbitrary code to be executed on the target user's system.
A remote user can create a specially crafted document that, when loaded by the target user, will trigger a memory corruption error
and execute arbitrary code on the target system. The code will run with the privileges of the target user.
Word 2002 SP3 is
vulnerable.
The following versions are not affected:
- Microsoft Office Word 2000 Service Pack 3
- Microsoft Office Word
2007 and Microsoft Office Word 2007 Service Pack 1
- Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003 and Microsoft Word Viewer 2003 Service Pack
3
- Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats and Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack
for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats Service Pack 1
- Microsoft Office for Mac 2004
- Microsoft Office for Mac 2008
In
their original advisory, Microsoft reported that Microsoft Office Word 2003 Service Pack 2 and Microsoft Office Word 2003 Service
Pack 3 were not affected. However, in their bulletin, they have provided a fix for those versions.
This vulnerability is being
actively exploited in limited situations.

Impact: A remote user can create a file that, when loaded by the target user, will execute arbitrary code on the target user's system.
