Description:  A vulnerability was reported in an HP patch for the HP Network Tracing and Logging (NetTL) and the related netfmt utility. A local user can cause a system panic.

HP reported that there is a potential local denial of service security vulnerability in the HP patches identified as PHNE_26413 and PHNE_27128. A local user can cause a system panic.

The patches were originally released in July 2002 and were not security related.

No further details were provided.

Impact:  A local user can create denial of service conditions.
Solution:  HP has released the following replacement patches:

For HP-UX B.11.11: PHNE_28444 or subsequent
For HP-UX B.11.00: PHNE_29231 or subsequent

 A. Background

    PHNE_26413 (B.11.11) and PHNE_27128 (B.11.00) contain a
    potential local denial of service vulnerability.
    An authorized, non-root user can cause a system panic.

     AFFECTED VERSIONS

     The following is a list by HP-UX revision of
     affected filesets or patches and fix information.
     To determine if a system has an affected version,
     search the output of "swlist -a revision -l fileset"
     for an affected fileset or patch, then determine if
     a fixed revision or applicable patch is installed.

     HP-UX B.11.11

     PHNE_26413
     fix: install PHNE_28444 or subsequent

     HP-UX B.11.00
     =============
     PHNE_27128
     fix: install PHNE_29231 or subsequent
